Historical cemeteries are unique, priceless sources of genealogical and cultural knowledge about the past of our society.
Their mass destruction is certainly a catastrophe, at least for Russian history, which remained largely unnoticed due to other events of the 20th century.
There are a number of strange prejudices in the public consciousness regarding the topic of cemeteries – many people consider it to be something “mystical”, “gloomy”, and it often turns out to be squeezed out of attention, taboo.
This makes it especially joyful that such works as “Oblivion” exist: Mikhail Petrov very clearly, soberly, with respect and without sensationalism reveals the topic of the destruction of cemeteries in Moscow, with a firm support of facts and the share of creativity necessary for such a project.
I hope that in the future there will be more examples of such an attitude towards lost heritage.
